Know the green cross code

Sounds like something that little kids do, but it really works. Before crossing the road just...Look...Listen...Look again...and Cross when safe to do so.

Keep safe when walking alone on the road
  • Stay on the path or pavement
  • Keep away from the kerb, and if there isn’t one walk in single file facing the traffic
  • Keep aware of your surroundings: don’t get distracted by listening to loud music and using your mobile phone
Be alert when you are out and about
  • Plan a safe route to where you are going
  • Look out for safe places to cross the road
If there's a crossing use it!
  • Wait by the crossing so that drivers know you want to cross
  • Stay away from the kerb until you cross
  • Don't use a mobile or listen to music when you cross
  • Use the stripes to walk on. Many accidents happen near crossings.
  • Where there is an island, treat each half as 2 separate crossings
